Garage Rock Radio Podcast 11 - over 400 listens!

Thanks to everyone who has listened to our Garage Rock Radio Podcast 11 over at Mixcloud! It now has 431 listens; Double the number from a month ago. People are still going to Mixcloud to check it out. Garage Rock lives on in 2012!

People like the Garage Pop sound of the first track by William Penn and His Pals. They dig the fuzz of the next two tracks, probably produced by the owner of the lead guitar amp sticking a screwdriver through the speaker to get that intense overdriven fuzz sound without having to buy a fuzzbox!

Garage lives on in the 21st century and people dig the two modern tracks by Lyn Price and The Cons. You can find more music by Lyn on our Record Label website, and read more about The Cons here.

I went crazy with the Psychedelic tracks on this podcast! Six heavy trippy crazy tracks with all kinds of vocal styles and powerful guitar solos. One track is even by The Grateful Dead, recorded BEFORE their first album. I'm going to put another Grateful Dead track on my next podcast!

Like I said last post, I like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Adele as much as the next person - but sometimes you gotta try something new and COMPLETELY Different! It's going to be cool to watch Madonna doing the half time show at the Super Bowl this weekend, I'm a Madonna fan too. But I also love obscure 60s Garage Rock, Runk, Indie and Psychedelic music, so I make these really cool podcasts to feature that kind of music.

Will YOU have a listen?

Garage Rock Radio podcast 11 doing well!

It's been just one week since the latest Garage Rock Radio podcast, number 11, hit the interwebs. We're happy to report that listens on Mixcloud are going well! Almost 200 listens so far and a lot of new "followers".

I'm listening to the podcast right now! I think this one is a good mix of 60s Garage Rock in all its lo-fi glory, new high quality Garage / Indie Rock tunes, and fuzzy Gothic Psychedelic 60s tunes with some extended guitar solos. Included in the Psychedelic portion of the show is a very early recording by The Grateful Dead, right after they changed from The Warlocks! That is followed by a trippy dirge with spacey guitar during the verses followed by piercing fuzz riffs during the TWO extended guitar breaks! Lyrics to "Song of a Sinner" which the vocalist is singing to God:

... And yet, I ask to be forgiven, knowing the life that I've been living.
And yes, I know its too late, oh. 'Cuz on your judgement day you're gonna close your gate, on me. On me? On me! And I'll be left here on my own, to face Hell all alone.

Heavy, maaaaan!

Look, I like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Rihanna and Adele as much as the next person - but sometimes you gotta try something new and COMPLETELY Different!

Will YOU have a listen?

Song 1 was originally done by The Vogues in the 60s. Lyndsey's cover is an upbeat rocking version of this cool tune! The chorus reminds me of Nirvana's huge hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit" - especially since the drum riff is very similar. This song is on Lyndsey's new CD - "NYC Garage And Blue Lemonade"

Song 2 is by the famous 60s Model / icon, Twiggy. It's a cool, hip 60s Garage pop tune!

Song 3 is a new Garage Hard rocking tune by Ko and The Knockouts. Ko hosts a show at Little Stevens Underground Garage channel on Sirius radio. This song is one THE BEST New Garage Rock songs!

Song 4 is from 80's all-girl Garage Rockers, The Pandoras. This is one of THE BEST Garage Rock songs of the 80s! If this doesn't get you up and dancing around the room, check your pulse cuz you might be dead!

Songs 5, 6 and 8 are very cool original 60s Garage Rock songs that you will love!

Song 7 is a spooky psychedelic perfect-for-Halloween song - a 60s cover of Jimi Hendrix' hit, "Hey Joe!" - complete with a Theremin, very cool! You have to hear this!

Well, enjoy the music. It's only 28 minutes, so go listen!

And now, the Lyrics!

Scream Loud - The Quests

If you really want me, yeah,
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!

Or I won't hear you,
I'll never know you're there.
I'll never realize that you may
really care.

And so I'll say to you -
If you really want me, yeah,
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!

For the words that you say
may not come into my heart.
I'll never know if we should
really part.

And so before I go -
If you really want me, yeah,
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!

[guitar break]

'Cuz if you really want me,
tell the world you do!
I want them all to know
our love can be true.

And so before I go -
If you really want me, yeah,
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!

Or I won't hear you,
I'll never know you're there.
I'll never realize that you may
really care.

And so I'll say to you -
If you really want me, yeah,
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!
Scream Loud! Scream Loud!

I Want You - Tony and Terri

Hey hey hey girl, take a look at me.
It's really hard I know, since you never saw me before.

You know what I want, I want you!

That don't matter none, when you're young.
What do you expect me to do?
Get up and walk out with you?

You know what I want, I want you!

Maybe you oughtta walk away.
(Why should I go, why can't I stay, no matter what the people say!)
Maybe you oughtta walk away.
(Why let 'em live your life for you, come and do what you wanna do with me!)

Hey hey hey girl, you better start livin', yeah.
Its time you had some thoughts of your own.
Life's too short, the red tape's too long.

You don't have to be like everybody else, no!
I never met anyone like you!
And I'm tired of doin' everything other people do.

You know what I want, babe, I want you!

I'm glad I listened to what you say!
(Why should I go, why can't I stay, no matter what the people say!)
I'm glad I listened to what you say!
(Why let 'em live your life for you, come and do what you wanna do with me!)

I want you!!!!
Oh I need need you!
I want you!!!!
And I love you too!
I want you!!!!
And I'll be with you!
I want you!!!!
Oh I want you!

Someday - The Resumes

Hey girl I wanna talk to you,
I got something to say.
I'm gonna be leavin' you,
I may be back someday.

I'll do what I wanna do,
I'll find a way,
to keep on lovin' you,
as I do today, as I do today, today, today!

I've gotta keep moving on,
don't ask me where.
I'm travellin' all alone,
you must beware.

Lord no, I gotta be gone,
don't really care.
I'll stop in one of those towns where
there's time to spare, there's time to spare, to spare, to spare!

[guitar break]

I've cheated I've run around
looking for some pay.
I haven't any friends in town
so I'll be on my way, my way, my way.

I'll stay in a cheap motel
and earn my pay.
And when I'll pay my bill
I'll be on my way.

All that will pay my friend
If I find a way.
Divert the spell my friend
so I'll get it right some day, some day, some day!

Painted Air - Remaining Few

Here I lie on my deathbed,
recalling things said,
as my world slips away.

A man stands over me,
one final plea,
though I disagree!

[break]

Cars, daytime and light,
running red light.
Other drivers won't yield.

People stand without sound,
tears thouch the ground,
and soon dry away!

The Quests Website and New CD

Hello GarageRockers!

I recently got an email from The Quests - the 60s Garage Band who performed the song that I chose as the first song in my first GarageRockRadio Podcast.

The email announces the Quests' website: http://www.questsrock.com/index.cfm, and their new CD too!

Here's the email:

Subject: "The Quests"announce www.questsrock.com a new website and new CD

Dear Bill,

Hi, I'm Bob Fritzen, lead singer/songwriter of "The Quests." Still proud of the fact that "Scream Loud" was the lead off song of your 1'st podcast. Due to that honor, and other good vibes from old and new fans, we have recorded a new CD, RE-QUESTED: BACK TO THE GARAGE" which contain our old hits, previously unreleased songs recorded in the '60s, and five new '60s style songs written/recorded by the original members in 2007.

Wanted to let you know that we have also opened a website http://www.questsrock.com/ where these can be sampled and purchased. If you could list our URL after our name The Quests http://www.questsrock.com/, it would be greatly appreciated. Garagerockradio.com was one of the the most important site listed on our links. Check out our website and let me know what you think. We also have a 60sgaragebands.com interview coming out 2/18/08, hope you like it.

Once again, thanks for your help and interest in the past.

Tommy James Interview!

Every fan of 60s music knows that Tommy James and the Shondells had a string of hits including "Hanky Panky", "Mony Mony", "Crimson and Clover" and "Crystal Blue Persuasion." But the group had lesser known songs that fit into the "Garage" genre. Even though Tommy found success in the music business, he started off in an obscure Midwestern band called the Tornados. His early history is similar to many Garage bands. Listen to our interview with Tommy James and learn about how he got started. This will be of interest to Garage Rockers and to musicians of today who will be inspired by Tommy's story.

Tommy James hit the big time with the single "Hanky Panky" in 1966. But the song had been recorded in 1964! Listen to the interview to hear how Tommy had to scramble to capitalize on the sudden success of this record. The band quickly put together an album, also named "Hanky Panky." Two great Garage rocking songs from the album are featured in our interview podcast. The first is "Say I Am", an upbeat dance song that is in the same style as "Go Go Gorilla" (Shandells) and "Game of Love" (Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders). The other cool 60s Garage rocker is "Lots of Pretty Girls", a song with a great guitar solo that sounds a bit like "Hang on Sloopy" (McCoys).

1960s Garage Rock Lyrics - Podcast 1

Have you heard our very first podcast? It featured four great 1960s Garage Rock songs that you don't hear very often today, if at all! I would invite some of today's bands to cover these great tunes. To help the cause, I'll list the lyrics to the songs on our first podcast, as I hear them.

Scream Loud - The Quests (Visit their website)

If you really want me, yeah, scream loud, scream loud.

Or I won't hear you, I'll
never know you're there, I'll
never realize that you may
really care
and so, I'll say to you...

If you really want me, yeah, scream loud, scream loud.

For the words that you say may not
come into my heart
I'll never know if we should
really part
and so before I go...

If you really want me, yeah, scream loud, scream loud.

[Guitar Break]

Cuz if you really want me,
tell the world you do!
I want them all to know our
love can be true!
And so before I go...

If you really want me, yeah, scream loud, scream loud.

Or I won't hear you,
I'll never know you're there,
I'll never realize that you may
really care
and so, I'll say to you...

If you really want me, yeah, scream loud, scream loud.

I Want you - Toni & Terri

It's really hard I know, since you never saw me before.
You know what I want, I want you!

That don't matter none when you're young.

Get up and walk out with you?
You know what I want, I want you!

Maybe you oughta walk away!
Why should I go, why cant I stay, no matter what the people say?
Maybe you oughta walk away!
Why let em live your life for you, come on and do what you wanna do with me!

[harmonia break]

Hey hey hey girl, you better start livin', yeah.
Its time you had some thoughts of your own.
Life's too short, the red tape's too long.

You dont have to be like everybody else, no.
I never met anyone like you.
And I'm tired of doin' everything other people do.
You know what I want babe, I want you!

I want you!!!!
Oh, I need you!
I want you!!!!
And I love you too!
I want you!!!!
And I'll be with you!
I want you!!!!
Oh, I want you!

Some Day - The Resumes

Hey girl I wanna talk to you,
I've got somethin' to say.
I'm gonna be leavin' you,
I may be back someday.

I'll do what I wanna do,
I'll find a way,
to keep on lovin' you

don't really care.
I'll stop in one o' those towns
where there's time to spare, there's time to spare, to spare, to spare! aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!

[Extremely Cool Fuzz Guitar Break]

I've cheated, I've run around,
Lookin' for some pay.
I haven't any friends in town,
so I'll be on my way, my way, my way!

I'll stay in a cheap hotel,
and earn my pay.
And when I'll pay my bill,
I'll be on my way.

GarageRockRadio Podcast, Volume 1

I've been talking about doing a 1960's Garage Podcast for quite some time. Well, I've finally made one. It contains 4 cool 60s Garage tunes:

Scream Loud - Quests (Visit their website)
I Want You - Toni and Terri
Some Day - Resumes
Painted Air - Remaining Few

Thanks to everyone who emailed me a "station ID". You can do the same and I'll use it in the future. Just say, "I love Garage Rock Radio", or "This is xxx from xxx and I love Garage Rock Radio", or "This is xxxx from the band xxxx and you're listening to Garage Rock Radio", or something like that. You can use any mic and any recording program, even the Sound Recorded program that comes with Windows. Save it as a WAV file and email it to bill@garagerockradio.com and I'll use it in an upcoming podcast.
